Behind Enemy Lines

My Question - Why does he need to cock out a live round when the rifle is already loaded and ready for fire? For action action only? To look more Gungho? haha
Owen Wilson running for his life when he is caught in between enemy and friendly forces line of fire, with hundred of bullets from both sides and not a single one hit him...haha. Well, this can only happen in movies.
